after she was exposed to asbestos in roof tiles in her secondary school

November 2010 - 11/5/2010 From city to the feds, no one raised warning about hazardous waste, (Malakoff News)
"According to records, officials at the city,
county, state and federal level knew about a building that housed a
hazardous waste dump in Malakoff long before any action was taken to
clean or secure the dangerous site, even though there was evidence that
children were playing in the building. . .The memo
also points out that the Malakoff Elementary School campus is within one
mile...There is no evidence, however, the public was ever warned before 2009." - 11/4/2010 School plans rankle parents in Monroe, (Sentinel) "Of chief concern to some parents is the presence of asbestos at
Applegarth and the fact that fourth- and fifth-grade students would be
attending school in an active construction zone."
- 11/2/2010 Chemical fire closes New Bedford school, 8 firefighters evaluated at hospital, (WPRI) Mass. "A chemical fire at a New Bedford middle school has forced the cancellation of classes Tuesday. Eight
firefighters were taken to the hospital after battling the fire inside

- 9/6/2010 Stench harms Olde Towne Daphne's charm "DAPHNE, Ala. — There’s a foul smell near Bayside Academy at the end of
Dryer Avenue, and the odor has been there for more than a year...
However, the second building, nearest to the bay and located
farthest west, does not produce enough water consistently to transfer

August 2010 - 8/22/2010 The Earth will move: Poisoned Hamden neighborhood braces for epic cleanup (video) (New Haven Register) "Evidence of contaminated soil surfaced a decade ago when the Board of
Education, intent on renovating the former Hamden Middle School on
Newhall Street, found the waste fill in test borings. Further
investigation revealed that batteries, empty ammunition shells, ash,
slag and coal waste, as well as heavy metals and household trash, was
buried at various locations. Elevated levels of lead were detected at 13
homes, triggering an emergency removal by the federal Environmental
Protection Agency. The removal was considered temporary until a final
cleanup is performed."

Mold has delayed the start of class in more Iowa schools.
